Area Council and Committee Meetings

 
  Calgary Area has several committees that handle various aspects of Guiding.  Area Council and Executive handle the business aspects of Calgary Area Guiding.

If you would be interested in attending and participating on any of the committees please call Area Office for information.  If you are interested in attending an Area Council meeting please talk to your Division Commissioner as she could arrange to bring you as a guest.

Area Council membership consists of the Area Commissioner, Deputy Area Commissioner, Area Treasurer, Area Secretary, the 13 Division Commissioners and each of the Committee Chairs.  They meet four times a year to handle the business aspects of Calgary Area Guiding.  The same members also meet four times a year where the Division Commissioners can bring up discuss ideas that their members would like to see and share activities and events that they may have had.  At the same time the Committee chairs meet to discuss their upcoming events and how they can work as a team to plan and run the various events.

Executive membership consists of the Area Commissioner, Deputy Area Commissioner, Area Treasurer, Area Secretary, two Division Commissioners and one Committee Chairs.  Division Commissioner and Committee chair positions are for two years and are filled by asking for nominations or volunteers and they are then voted on at Area Council. Executive handles Area business in between Area Council meetings and the minutes of Executive are ratified by Area Council.

Camping Advisers meet 8 -  10 times a year.  The committee membership consists of all the Division Camping Advisers and their Deputies as well as the Area Camping Adviser and her Deputy.  The Camping Advisers organize and run events such as the Backpacking weekend camp, Winter Camp Weekend and other events.  The camping advisers work within their Division to mentor guiders on camping skills and to approve camps for their division members.  Camping Advisers also work with the camping trainers to put on OAL training weekends.

International meet on an as need basis and the committee is made up of Guiders who have expressed an interest in the international aspects of Guiding.  They review applications for selected events, ensure they are complete and forward to provincial for final selection process.  They also organize events for Calgary Area such as International Information Night and Thinking Week activities. The International Committee also review forms for International Trips and ensures they are in compliance.

Membership meets 8 - 10 times a year and consists of members who are interested in membership recruitment, and retention in Calgary Area.  they review reports and work with the Division Commissioners to ensure their members are in compliance with Police Record Checks and Safe Guide training.  They also work on events that promote membership in Calgary Area

PR meets 8 - 10 times a year and consists of members who are interested in promoting Guiding in the media and to the public.  They work on a variety of events such as Share Bear, Santa Claus Parade, the Stampede Parade and other events throughout the year.  they work on the roll out for each of the cookie campaigns and providing information and suggestions on how Divisions and Districts can promote Guiding.

Training meets 8 - 10 times a year and consists of members who are interested in sharing their knowledge of Guiding.  They coordinate and facilitate trainings organized at the Area level.  They also work with Divisions and Districts who are interested in having  trainings in their own areas. Many trainers also take on mentoring roles. Trainers must complete a training process themselves before they can be trainers.

Site Facilities meets 8 - 10 times a year and consists of people who are interested in our camp sites.  Each camp site has a site rep who takes on the responsibility of keeping an eye on their particular site, making recommendations for maintenance and improvements.  The site reps also do site orientations for Guiders who require the orientation in order to camp on the site.
