Box 751, Lethbridge, ABThe gardens opened in 1967 as a Centennial Project, was built as a monument to the contribution made to Canadian culture by Canadians of Japanese origin, and to symbolize the goodwill between Canada and Japan. The garden is approximately 4 acres in size and consists of 5 separate Japanese Garden Components. Tours take approximately 1 1/2 hours, and consist of a tour of the garden, a Japanese folktale is told to younger children, origami folding for all groups, and if time permits, a Japanese folk dance is taught. Our staff wear the traditional yukata & obi (cotton kimono & sash), tabi (split toes socks), and geta (sandals). Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden is the only garden in North America to have traditionally clad hostesses/hosts to provide guided tours. Programs are suitable for the following age groups: Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders, Senior Branches Available at the Guide Centre: ERP (not yet), copy of insurance (yes)
