District Commissioner Stream Trainings

 
  When you complete all the trainings in the District Commissioner Getting Started Stream, or can show that you have equivalency, you will earn the District Commissioner  pin.

Orientation – join us to discuss how you fit into the world wide organization of Guiding.  Find out what resources are available to you, who to go to for help, and what opportunities there are for adult and youth members.

Safe Guide - is a mandatory session that will help you to use the Safe Guide as a tool to help in planning activities that are fun and safe.  Until you have completed Safe Guide you cannot be responsible for leading any part of the program.  If you have not completed your Safe guide training within 18 months of becoming an adult member you will not be permitted to hold a position in a unit

Getting Started Modules

DC - Introduction Module – learn about the basic work and duties of a District Commissioner

DC - Foundation of Your Position – attend this session and we will help you to see what support is there for you in your role as district commissioner.  We will show you ways to manage your time, handle long and short range planning and some ideas to do succession planning.

DC - District Administration -  attend this session and learn about the screening process and the steps you need to take when you are recruiting for new leaders.  At this session there will be discussion about records management and we will have ideas for you on how to run an effective council meeting.

DC – Human Resources – attend this session and learn how to build your team in your district.  You will have the opportunity to develop leadership and team building skills, as well as communication skills.  Discussion will also focus on the Performance Management module and how to deal with conflict in your District.

DC – Building Your District – this session will help you to develop skills in communicating within your community, how to recognize your Guiders (and increase your retention).  You will learn how to mentor and support your Guiders, make Unit visits, and ways to motivate your Guiders.

In Depth Modules

Foundation of Your Position – This module will give you the opportunity to determine available resources and support; practice short and long range planning; gain time management strategies and obtain succession planning ideas

Building Your District  - This module is intended to provide you with the opportunity to: identify resources that can enhance the girls’ Guiding experience; apply questions for inclusive programming to all community events and activities; explore ideas for retaining Members; develop strategies to encourage former Members to rejoin and  gain a deeper understanding of the recruiting
process.

District Administration  - This module is intended to provide you with: further information on the screening process: ways to access and use iMIS information and strategies for effective council meetings.

Human Resources - This module is intended to provide you with the opportunity to: Gain a deeper understanding of Adult Member Support Procedures, Module 3: Performance Management; Gain an understanding of different personality and
leadership styles and how they are important in setting up an effective team; Learn the value of delegation and  Develop the ability to manage conflict.

Risk Management -  This module is intended to:  familiarize participants with contracts and waivers; provide participants with knowledge of Safe Guide compliance issues and their responsibility for follow-up and help participants understand Girl Guides of Canada financial procedures and practices
